Samuel Molina-Wong was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attributes much of his early discoveries in painting to trips to China, and a study abroad in Rome. He honed his painting into a concrete language at the Rhode Island School of Design, from which he graduated in 2021. Shortly after, he moved to New York City where he made his debut at LaMaMa Galleria.
He aims to embody the physical complexity of nature through manipulation of material, and to initiate a confrontation with the intangibility of the natural world. Using the impalpable nature of abstraction, he attempts to bypass the sentimental connections of representation, and instead instill a sense of an incorporeal phenomena in the viewer. Molina-Wong brings a heightened attention to our surroundings through the details of the delicate, and time-weathered.
